Pick MixSleuth if…

  • you want tracklists for your own recorded sets — matched against the exact files you played
  • you'd rather your audio stayed private, on your Mac
  • you upload to Mixcloud or YouTube and want the tracklist ready to paste
  • you want BPM, key, transitions and energy measured from the mix itself
  • you'd rather pay a few dollars a year than a monthly subscription

Pick TrackSniff if…

  • you're on Windows, Linux or a phone
  • you only have a link to a public mix
  • you want a quick look without installing anything
Is MixSleuth a TrackSniff alternative?

Yes — both identify the tracks in a DJ set and give you a timestamped tracklist. They're built differently: TrackSniff is a website you paste a link into; MixSleuth is a Mac app that works from your own files, can match against your own music library for free, and keeps your audio on your Mac.

Which is cheaper?

For most DJs, MixSleuth: scanning your own library is free, Pro is $4.99 a year and Studio (unlimited Standard online ID) is $29.99 a year. TrackSniff's paid plans are $9 or $19 a month. TrackSniff's free tier is more generous for occasional online lookups of other people's mixes.

Can MixSleuth identify a mix from a YouTube or SoundCloud link?

No — on purpose. MixSleuth only processes audio files you supply, so it never pulls audio from a platform against its terms. If you already have the mix as a file, load that.

When is TrackSniff the better pick?

If you're on Windows or a phone, only have a link to a public mix, or want a quick look without installing anything, TrackSniff is quick and easy. For your own recorded sets, private mixes, or getting a polished tracklist ready for Mixcloud and YouTube, MixSleuth goes further.
